AMS congratulates Gary Harmon as he celebrates his 10-year anniversary with the company!
Gary is a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Cable Group at AMS. His role includes performing on-site troubleshooting, health monitoring testing, and aging management evaluations of critical plant systems in nuclear power plants. Throughout his tenure at AMS, Gary has completed over one hundred trips to nuclear power plants in the U.S. and several trips to nuclear plants abroad. Additionally, he has provided numerous training courses at the AMS headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee and at sites around the world focusing on how to use AMS test equipment.
Gary’s expertise has also been a great asset for the research and development efforts at AMS. He has served as both Principal Investigator and Project Manager for numerous U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) research projects to support the nuclear power industry. He is currently serving as Project Manager for a DOE Nuclear Energy Pathway II project entitled, “Development of Cable Aging Acceptance Criteria for Nuclear Facilities” that aims to develop acceptance criteria for mechanical, electrical, thermal, and chemical condition monitoring tests that trend with age-related degradation of electrical cables.
Though he is celebrating 10 years with AMS, Gary’s engineering career began at Philips Consumer Electronics Company where he spent 18 years in various engineering roles in television design, production support, quality, and field service. Travel has also been a major part of his career; as a field service engineer, he managed television repair centers and supported product installations all over the U.S.
Gary grew up here in east Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee (UT) where he received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He and his wife Rebecca, also an east Tennessee native and UT graduate, just celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary. They are huge Volunteer fans and have been on several road trips to support the team. They love visiting other schools and meeting their fans. In fact, they have been to all the SEC campuses and are looking forward to the addition of Oklahoma and Texas in the coming years. Additionally, Gary and Rebecca love spending time outdoors and regularly spend time in the Great Smokey Mountains. They also enjoy a fun beach trip down to Destin, Florida.
Over the last 10 years, Gary has been such a great member of the AMS team. He is always available to lend a helping hand to a coworker and provides excellent service for all our customers. We really appreciate all that you do Gary, congratulations on this milestone!
