Employee Spotlight: Edwin Riggsbee - 30 Years
Edwin Riggsbee was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but moved to Oak Ridge in the 1970s with his parents, and his dad worked at K-25 in Oak Ridge. His mother was born and raised in Anderson County, establishing his family ties and roots in East Tennessee. Prior to joining AMS, he served nearly ten years in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Reactor Control Division where he was directly involved with submarine nuclear reactor instrumentation and control systems. He was awarded the U.S. Navy Achievement Medal for his efforts related to the successful upgrade of several reactor control instrumentation and monitoring systems including extensive installation acceptance testing. After completing active duty in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service in 1991, he returned to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee College of Engineering. He began his career at AMS after graduating from UT with an Electrical Engineering degree in August 1994.
Throughout his career, Edwin has had the opportunity to travel extensively for AMS, working in countries such as England, Spain, Slovakia, Australia, and nearly every nuclear power plant in the United States. He has greatly enjoyed collaborating with the technical staff of U.S. power plants regularly over the last 30 years and considers himself fortunate to work alongside some of the best and brightest at AMS, particularly Dr. Hashemian. As he begins to slow down and travel less, Edwin finds more time to indulge in flower gardening, cooking, and playing the piano.
Edwin has been married to Nancy for 22 years, and she has been a supportive partner throughout his career, holding a special place in his heart.
Reflecting on his career, Edwin feels he could not have had a better career path and opportunity than the one provided by AMS. He feels blessed to have called Knoxville and East Tennessee home for 50 years.
Congratulations on this incredible 30-year milestone, Edwin!
