Brent Shumaker of AMS Wins ANS H.M. Hashemian Award
AMS Corporation is proud to announce that Senior Engineering Manager Mr. Brent Shumaker has been awarded the 2024 H.M. Hashemian Mid-Career Award by the American Nuclear Society (ANS). Mr. Shumaker is recognized for his outstanding contributions to the nuclear instrumentation and control (I&C) profession in the areas of online monitoring (OLM), condition monitoring, and prognostics.
The H.M. Hashemian Mid-Career Award was established by the ANS Human Factors, Instrumentation & Control Division (HFICD) in 2018 to honor AMS President, Dr. Hashemian. The award is given annually to an individual within the first 15-25 years of their career in recognition of their contributions to nuclear I&C, human factors engineering, or human-machine interface.
Mr. Shumaker has been with AMS Corporation for nearly 23 years and is AMS’s expert in OLM, condition monitoring, and prognostics, especially regarding statistical methods. He is co-author of seven awarded and one pending U.S. patents, and the author/co-author of more than 50 journal articles and industry publications.
One of Mr. Shumaker’s most notable accomplishments is co-authoring a U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Topical Report that provides the nuclear industry with an NRC-approved methodology for extending the calibration intervals of pressure, level, and flow transmitters in nuclear power plants using OLM.
Regarding the award, Mr. Shumaker said, “I have seen firsthand what an impact Dr. Hashemian has made on the nuclear industry, and it is an honor to be associated with an award named after him. I am truly grateful to have had the privilege to work in an industry that I care deeply about, and to be recognized for my work means the world to me.”
“We are very proud of Brent for this accomplishment,” said Dr. H.M. Hashemian. “This award is well deserved. Congratulations, my friend.”
