AMS Hosts EMC Course in Orlando, FL
AMS hosted a 3-day electromagnetic capability (EMC) course in Orlando, FL, from February 13 – 15, 2024. The course focused on the fundamentals of EMC qualification testing and analysis for the nuclear industry. The information in the course was geared toward plant system and design engineers, Engineer of Choice (EOC) firms, system vendors, digital instrumentation and control (I&C) designers, commercial grade dedicators, and other personnel involved with the development or qualification of systems for nuclear power plants. Attendees of the course left with an understanding of the EMC guidance provided by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), national and international standards for EMC testing, and the ability to identify the characteristics of a system that make it either vulnerable to or responsible for electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Dr. Chad Kiger, AMS’s EMC Engineering Manager, led this 3-day training. Dr. Kiger is a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Tennessee. As an iNARTE–certified EMC Engineer and MIL-STD EMC specialist, Dr. Kiger has performed EMC qualification testing in nearly 100 nuclear facilities and equipment manufacturers across the United States and abroad, including data review and site assessments of the electromagnetic environment. He was the Project Leader for the revision to IEC 62003, “Nuclear Power Plants—Instrumentation and Control Important to Safety—Requirements for Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing,” and is a member of the EPRI nuclear EMC working group.
AMS’s next training course will be a 5-day I&C Course held at AMS’s headquarters in Knoxville, TN, from August 19 – 23, 2024. Be sure to visit our courses website at www.ams-courses.com for the most up-to-date information on upcoming events.
