Alexander Hashemian of AMS Awarded U.S. Patent for Critical Measurement Systems for Advanced Nuclear Reactors
The U.S. Patent No. 11,215,492 B2 was awarded to Alexander Hashemian of Analysis and Measurement Services Corporation (AMS) on January 4, 2022. This invention makes it possible to measure fluid levels in a tank or vessel without an instrumentation penetration below the fluid surface, eliminating the possibility of a leak. The product of this invention to be commercialized by AMS will be useful to small modular reactors (SMRs), advanced reactors (ARs), and microreactors (MRs) that are slated to be deployed in the United States and elsewhere over the next decade.
This is the 22nd patent that AMS has received over the life of the company with the first one awarded in 1981. Mr. Alexander Hashemian, Senior Research Engineer at AMS and author of the newly awarded patent, said, “This patent is one of several pending that focus on technologies for next-generation nuclear reactor applications.” In addition to this newly awarded patent, AMS has recently concluded a seven-year, multi-million-dollar research and development project focused on the development of instrumentation and control system technologies for SMRs and other next-generation nuclear reactors.
