Employee Spotlight: Craig Harris
AMS Congratulates Craig Harris as he approaches his 10-year anniversary with the company!
In his role as cable engineer, Craig manages cable-related plant testing and data analysis, oversees the CHAR technical service agreements, conducts CHAR system training courses to our customers, and equips the cable group with necessary resources to perform their work. He is currently supporting a DOE Pathway II cable aging project with the objective of developing aging acceptance criteria for condition monitoring tests to provide a quantitative evaluation of the aged condition of installed cables. In addition to his incredible contributions to the company, Craig is always excited to share his knowledge and is a great mentor to new hires and colleagues.
He has made a number of contributions to AMS during his tenure. A few notable highlights include:
- Contributing to the validation and development of the frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) technique as a means for quantifying age-related degradation in collaboration with EPRI, PNNL, and Wirescan.
- Helping develop the thermal aging programs that are essential for AMS to be able to quantify age-related degradation in cables. These programs have been used in six of our DOE SBIR projects to date.
Though he is originally from Cleveland, TN, Craig moved to Knoxville to attend The University of Tennessee, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. During his time as a student, Craig met his best friend Becka, who he has been lucky to call his wife for the past 8 years. After graduating from UTK, he moved back to his hometown for a few months where he worked in an auto mechanic shop before accepting the role at AMS and moving back to Knoxville.
He and his wife have two beautiful children, Aubrey (5) and Caleb (3). Craig notes that “Parenthood has been the sweetest and greatest adventure we’ve experienced yet. The best is yet to come!” He and his family are very active in their church where Craig helps teach and lead a group of Kindergarten/First graders and in their community where they participate in outreach programs and host neighborhood events. In his down time, Craig enjoys reading, writing, wood working, hiking with his wife, doing escape rooms, playing board games, doing arts and crafts with his family, and weaving The Office quotes into everyday life as often as possible.
When asked about his past 10 years at AMS, Craig said “I am very grateful to have a job that I genuinely enjoy with people that I sincerely enjoy just as much. Too few people can truly say this.”
Craig is such a joy to have at the office, is always excited to help his colleagues, and works hard to support the work of AMS. We are grateful for your service to the company. Congratulations on this milestone!
