AMS’s EMC Engineering Manager Receives ISA POWID Award and Donates Proceeds to UT

AMS is pleased to announce that our Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineering Manager Dr. Chad Kiger was selected as the 2021 recipient of the engineering achievement award of International Society of Automation (ISA). This award is given to those within the ISA’s Power Industry Division to recognize their outstanding achievement, original design application, and special contributions toward the development of engineering concepts in the field of instrumentation and controls for the advancement of electric power generation. As the recipient of this award, Dr. Kiger had the opportunity to award a $4,000 scholarship to a student at a college of his choice. Dr. Kiger selected two students in the nuclear engineering department of the University of Tennessee. AMS has matched the award for each student to receive $4,000.

Dr. Kiger is an iNARTE–certified EMC Engineer and a MIL-STD EMC Specialist. During his 15 years at AMS, he has performed EMC qualification testing in nearly 100 nuclear facilities and equipment manufacturers across the U.S. and abroad. He is a leading member in the development of new EMI/RFI standards for nuclear power plants. He is currently serving as a project leader for the development of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standard 62003. This standard establishes requirements for electromagnetic compatibility testing of instrumentation, control, and electrical equipment supplied for use in systems important to safety of nuclear power plants. He is also serving as working group chair in the development of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standard 473 which is designed to set the framework for performing an Electromagnetic (EM) Site Survey in the frequency range of 10 kHz to 40 GHz.
