Employee Spotlight: Dan Beverly

AMS honors our beloved DAN BEVERLY as he approaches his 34th year with the company. Dan has been with AMS since 1987 and has one of the longest tenures at AMS. A man of outstanding personal character, exceptional integrity, and honesty, Dan has been the company’s steady rock through thick and thin. If Dr. Hashemian is AMS’s captain, Dan is its steadfast first mate, steering the company’s growth and success. Dan’s long and loyal service to AMS, coupled with his enormous, generous heart, has earned him the de facto title of “AMS grand-dad”.

Dan’s significant contributions to AMS are beyond measure. Over the course of his long and dedicated career with AMS, Dan has served in numerous positions, including as Chief Technical Officer, Quality Assurance Manager, Chief Engineer, and Technical Assistant to the President. He has been responsible for all technical developments at AMS in the areas of cable condition monitoring, performance testing of process instrumentation in nuclear power plants, quality assurance, and related efforts.

Dan has performed testing and measurements for AMS in more than 100 nuclear plants and other facilities in the U.S. and throughout Europe. An expert in electronic test equipment hardware development, Dan has played a vital role in the design and development of several AMS diagnostic test systems produced for the nuclear industry. He is highly experienced in testing and troubleshooting electrical cables, pressure transmitter static and dynamic performance evaluation, and reactor diagnostics (including core barrel and reactor internal vibration analysis). Dan once wrote a proposal in just one week that won AMS a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). In addition, he has served as an expert instructor for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on missions to Mexico, Slovakia, and China.

Dan has been highly active in the area of rod control diagnostics through involvement in the Electric Power Research Institution (EPRI) Rod Control Reliability Committee, as well as on-line calibration monitoring for process instrumentation through the Pressurized Water Reactor Owner’s Group (PWROG). Furthermore, Dan holds a patent in the area of rod position indication and rod control systems of nuclear power plants. He has authored or co-authored numerous technical publications, including reports for the Nuclear Maintenance Assistance Center (NMAC) of EPRI and NUREG/CR reports for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and DOE.

Dan and his wonderful wife Mona have been the two most valuable friends of AMS. They have been married for nearly 50 years and were high school sweethearts. Mona, an accomplished educator in her own right, is also honored for allowing Dan to dedicate much of his life to the growth of AMS. They have two cats named Callie and Benjamin Buttons, and two dogs, Whitney and Shea. Now that he is in semi-retirement, Dan enjoys working on his trucks, working on computers, and completing home improvement projects.

Anyone who works at AMS owes Dan a debt of gratitude for the incredible work ethic he instilled in all of us. When you were leaving for home at night, and you thought you were the only one left in the building, you looked over at Dan’s window and saw his office light on, with him on the computer. Dan is a giver, not a taker, and we have all benefited.
