CONGRATULATIONS TO ALEX HASHEMIAN for reaching his 5-year milestone with AMS this past August. Alex started interning with AMS in 2010. Upon earning his Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee–Knoxville, Alex came on board at AMS as a Research Engineer. He currently serves as project manager for a Phase IIB Department of Energy (DOE) research project related to the development of sensors, cables, and associated testing technologies in support of small modular reactors (SMRs). In addition, his team was recently awarded a Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) voucher by DOE, which will enable AMS engineers to work with scientists at the nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) on specialized experiments related to sensors and cables for SMRs. Alex also routinely performs field testing services of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems in commercial nuclear power plants and research reactors worldwide.
An active member of the American Nuclear Society, Alex has co-authored ten publications to date. He holds a U.S. patent pertaining to a method and system for monitoring degradation of thermal protection system materials based on trending the thermal response of specialized embedded thermocouples.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys photography, playing piano, watching Formula 1, traveling with his recently engaged fiancé Sawyer, and spending time with his family and pets.
