One of the company’s longest active employees, Darrell Mitchell has worked for AMS since 1989, and celebrates his 30TH AMS ANNIVERSARY this August 2019. Darrell began his career at AMS as an engineer and now serves as the company’s Technical Services Manager, overseeing international and domestic sales. He plays an integral role in the development of technical sales and marketing strategies for the company, responsible for technical interface with clients, scheduling of field and laboratory tests, proposal preparation, and contractual negotiations for I&C testing of safety-related systems with numerous nuclear utilities throughout the world as well as U.S. government agencies. Currently, the focus of his work deals mostly with the Asian market business development and AMS’s core domestic business activities.

Originally from Virginia, Darrell has lived in many places, before settling in Knoxville in 1989 with his wife Ginger. They have been married for 38 years and have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Darrell is active in his church and participates on mission trips to Asia and locally. He enjoys hiking, working on engines, and traveling to different parts of the world.

Upon receiving his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee–Knoxville, Darrell went to work for the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). There he worked exclusively on nuclear submarines in Charleston, South Carolina, for 7 years as part of the Fluid Systems and Dynamics Branch, where he was responsible for modifications to the reactor systems and participated in submarine sea trials.

Over the past 20 years at AMS, Darrell has participated on numerous R&D projects with DOE, NRC, NASA, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, leading to the development and implementation of new technologies, as well as the preparation of technical reports and publications. In addition, he has performed field testing in almost all the nuclear power plants in the United States, as well as many throughout Europe and Asia.
