Dr. Jamie Coble, Assistant Professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Tennessee, was recently honored by the American Nuclear Society (ANS) with the inaugural Ted Quinn Early Career Award, presented by the Human Factors, Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Division (HFICD) of ANS.Established in 2017 by the ANS, the Ted Quinn Early Career Award—named in honor of Mr. Quinn, an expert in the field of nuclear power plant I&C and former ANS President—recognizes an individual who has made a significant and outstanding contribution early in their career to the I&C field to benefit the nuclear power industry. The award highlights the importance of young members who make a demonstrable difference in the future developments of nuclear plant I&C systems. Of particular note, Dr. Coble’s work with monitoring and diagnosing equipment related to nuclear energy made her an ideal candidate for this special award.
Brent Shumaker, 2nd Vice Chair of the HFICD and a Senior Engineering Manager at Analysis and Measurement Services Corporation (AMS), presented the award to Dr. Coble during the national meeting of ANS held in San Francisco, California, June 11–15, 2017.
The HFICD has been a part of ANS since 1979, and is devoted to the human component of nuclear technology, along with the underlying instrumentation, control, and human–machine interface technologies that support the safe operation of nuclear facilities.
