Brent D. Shumaker, Senior Systems Engineer at Analysis and Measurement Services Corporation (AMS), was recently elected as 2nd Vice Chair of the Human Factors, Instrumentation and Controls Division (HFICD) of the American Nuclear Society (ANS). Mr. Shumaker is a senior manager of the Systems Development Group at AMS, an award-winning technology consulting firm with headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is responsible for leading the development of software applications for instrumentation and control (I&C) system testing in nuclear power plants.
The HFICD has been a part of ANS since 1979, and is devoted to the human component of nuclear technology, along with the underlying instrumentation, control, and human-machine interface technologies that support the safe operation of nuclear facilities. The HFICD focuses on the information processing, control, and human system interaction aspects of nuclear systems.
Mr. Shumaker’s term will begin at the conclusion of the HFICD Executive Committee meeting this June in San Francisco, California. In his duties as 2nd Vice Chair, Mr. Shumaker will be responsible for assisting the Chair and Vice Chair in their supervision over the affairs of HFICD, including coordinating the work of the HFICD with the activities of the ANS. Per HFICD bylaws, Mr. Shumaker will be automatically elevated to Vice Chair and Chair in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
